Nangiarkoothu, the Sanskrit Dance Drama in July


Nangiarkoothu, the Sanskrit dance drama is conducted as part of the Koodiyattam festival – Aashadotsavam by  Mani Madhava Chakyar Gurukulam, a learning and performing centre for Koodiyattam.
The event is conducted at Lakkidi, Palakkad Dt in Kerala (India) from 17 to 30 Jul 2015.

Ritual - Kalamezhuthum Pattum - at Kanadimadom Tharavadu, Thrissur


Kalamezhuthu pattu is a ritualistic performance where figure of the deity is drawn on the floor with natural powders. To complete the ritual, folk songs and some tantric rituals are performed and finally the whole drawing is rubbed off by the performer in trance. The ritual Kalamezhuthu (drawing) and Pattu (song) together is called Kalamezuthum pattum.

Two-day festival of Kalamezhuthum Pattu is held at Kanadimadom Tharavadu in Thrissur, Kerala (India) on 08 & 09 July 2015. Main ritual is Roopakkalam. Figures of Lord Vishnu Maya and subsidiary deities are drawn on the floor using natural powders. Songs praising the Lord, special pooja, Oracle’s performance, fireworks etc. are the other highlights. This temple is famous for 390 Kuttichathans, the aides of Lord Vishnu Maya. Situated 20km from Thrissur, to reach the temple catch the bus to Thriprayar going via Ammadam- Kodannur- Alappad- Chazhur and get down at Peringottukara Library stop. Then the sign boards of Kanadimadom Tharavadu guides you to the temple. Lot of special offerings and poojas are conducted during these days.

Kathaprasanga Maholsavam, the Story Telling Festival

Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy, an autonomous body to promote the art and culture is organising a festival on story telling in Malayalam from 01 - 30 July 2015. The 'Kathaprasanga Maholsavam' is conducted at 6 different venues all over Kerala. The first schedule of the festival began at Thiruvananthapuram on 01 July.
